Army vet injured in Iraq raffles house for charity |
An ex-British Army soldier and security contractor injured in a roadside bomb in Iraq earlier this year is raffling his house to help fund his recovery and charity work.
A lucky winner will receive the keys to a brand new £300k house in Cardiff on 22 December when founder member of the Stereophonics and national radio presenter Stuart Cable conducts the draw.
Brett Lloyd - who was confined to a wheelchair after the attack by Iraqi insurgents - hopes to sell 40,000 raffle tickets from his website (www.winaukhouse.co.uk) at £10 each.
He devised the idea of contributing something back to the community and funding his recovery as was being treated for his injuries, earlier this year.
Brett says: \\\"I literally have to get back on my feet, so it seems logical to help myself at the same time as helping others. Many people have been kind to me while I’ve been recovering, so it seems right to be helping someone get an amazing new house, and also to raise money for charity while we’re at it.\\\"
The British Heart Foundation and other local charities will share a £50k donation by Brett from the proceeds of the raffle.
His wife Rebecca says: \\\"Brett is a livewire and constantly surprises me, but he’s really surpassed himself this time by putting the house up. But my heart is filled with pride for him, and I’m over the shock of it now!\\\"
The raffle is proving popular in the local area and far beyond as the public realises the opportunity to beat the credit crunch and does their bit for deserving causes at the same time.
Tickets are on sale at: www.winaukhouse.co.uk or look out for the Red Dragon FM thunder crew in Cardiff City centre over the coming months.
